At Woodcroft Academy, we expect all of our pupils to be:
Here Everyday Ready On Time and Engaged to Strive for Success
At Woodcroft Academy, we believe that every day in school counts and every moment matters. Each school day is a special chance for your child to learn new things, grow in confidence, and enjoy time with friends. When children attend regularly, they build good habits, stay connected, and give themselves the best chance to succeed – every day really does make a difference.
First Day Contact
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason at all, please contact the school office on the first day of your child’s absence.
Failure to contact the school may result in:
a call from our school office
a home visit from our pastoral team
Continued absence and/or failure to contact the school may result in:
prosecution through the courts
police intervention
It is important that you contact the school as soon as possible and maintain communication with school throughout your child’s absence.
Absence due to Illness and Appointments
Illnesses are unavoidable and part of school life, if your child has sickness or diarrhoea please follow 48 hour absence window.
If your child seems off in the morning but perks up then please consider bringing them to school for the afternoon session.
We understand that some appointments such as hospital appointments are given to you and are usually within school hours. However, we do where possible that if you are taking your child for a medical/dental appointment that ideally these are arranged outside of school hours. Where this is not possible please try and make appointments after 1.15pm as children will have an attendance mark for the morning and afternoon session.
Unauthorised Absences
An unauthorised absence falls under the criteria of:
unable to provide evidence of a medical appointment
unable to provide a valid reason for absence e.g. child not wanting to come to school
Holidays taken during term time
Family days taken during term time
Failing to report an absence
Lates arriving after registration closes
If 10 sessions in a 10 week period are unauthorised penalty notices will be considered and will also include lates.
Support
If you are having difficulties in maintaining your child’s attendance or punctuality you should speak to the school as soon as possible.
You can make an appointment to speak with Mrs Hammersley and Mrs Bible who are Woodcroft’s Senior Attendance Champions. They will be able to advise, support you and, where appropriate, engage with external agencies.
